Broadway Shows To Go Dark Tuesday For Election Day

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Eighteen Broadway shows will be going dark this coming Tuesday for Election Day.

The shows will be canceled Tuesday to encourage cast, crew and audiences to vote.

The following shows will go dark:

• "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical"
• "Cats"
• "Chicago"
• "The Color Purple"
• "The Encounter"
• "The Front Page"
• "The Humans"
• "Kinky Boots"
• "Les Liaisons Dangereuses"
• "Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812"
• "Oh Hello on Broadway"
• "On Your Feet!"
• "Paramour"
• "The Phantom of the Opera"
• "School of Rock"
• "Something Rotten!"
• "Waitress"
• "Wicked"

Some Broadway theaters will also add Monday evening shows when they are normally dark.

For one notable exception, the acclaimed "Hamilton" will go on as usual on Tuesday.

The Metropolitan Opera will also be closed on Tuesday. Performances will resume on Wednesday with "Guillaume Tell" at 6:30 p.m.
