Newark Football Team Hopes For Championship Miracle With $27G Fundraising Goal

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A shortage of funding could leave a pair of Newark Pop Warner football teams sidelined from the National Championships.

The Brick City Lions Pee-Wee and Midget Divisions both qualified for the National Championship match-up at Disney World.

The players, ranging from 10 to 13, have worked hard to get to the tops of their league. The teams have enough money for airfare, but they're more than $27,000 short in money needed for lodging and meals.

"We have to have the funds in by tomorrow in order for this to be solidified," Calif Harris, a coach, said.

The teams are hoping for a miracle, hoping to raise funds through their GoFundMe page. If you want to help, click here.
