Brawl Breaks Out Onstage During Rap Concert At Webster Hall

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A massive brawl broke out onstage during a hip-hop concert at Webster Hall Saturday night.

As CBS2's Steve Langford reported, rapper Skate Maloley was in the middle of his act at the East Village venue when security apparently wanted to stop the show when a fight broke out.

Langford talked with two fans who were at the show.

"He grabbed like security like off of a fan, and that's when he got like stomped to the ground," one woman said.

"They picked him up and threw him on the ground and starting kicking him," the other said

The 21-year-old rapper was grabbed by guards.

"When Skate finally came out, he had cuts all over him," a fan said.

Outside Webster Hall, the young rapper's fans were appalled and angry.

"To see him like crying and get hurt like that -- I just like wanted to cry with him," a fan said.

Videos of the melee were posted on Twitter and YouTube. The videos show fights breaking out onstage before Maloley leaves as fans pushed and shoved security guards.

Maloley took to Twitter, saying he was trying to save his fans from getting choked out.

"Never would I have wanted this for my fans. I show nothing but love and peace to everyone I encounter. Tonight the devil was against us," Maloley tweeted.

Surveillance video showed police arriving at the scene, but it was not clear how or if they intervened.

A police source told CBS2 there were no assault complaints, no arrests, and no charges filed.

The rapper was photographed smoking a marijuana blunt with fans after the show.

Webster Hall management was not available for comment, but said in a statement they are investigating the incident.

"Saturday's incident is being full investigated, as there are misreports about what took place. Webster Hall's staff do NOT carry tasers and are not armed. They carry strobe flashlights. The safety of all guests is always our primary focus," the concert venue said.

Meanwhile, residents who live next to Webster Hall said the bedlam did not surprise them.

"It's reflective of what happens here a lot of the time," one resident said.

"It gets heated," another said. "It's crazy over here."

Maloley canceled his show Sunday in Boston following the incident.

Meanwhile, an online petition called for the closing of Webster Hall claimed late Sunday to have nearly 4,000 supporters.
