Bratton Says He Has 'No Concerns' About Safety Of Thanksgiving Day Parade
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- NYPD Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said he has "no concerns about security'' for the city's upcoming Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Bratton said on Wednesday thousands of officers would be on hand to patrol the parade route in Manhattan.
The executive producer of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Amy Kule, told WCBS 880's Marla Diamond they are working closely with the NYPD in the wake of the Paris attacks.
"And we're doing what we can to be the best partners with the city and their agencies, and whatever they say goes," Kule said.
The police commissioner said this will be the first year an additional 1,300 officers who are assigned to counterterrorism-related units will be dispatched to the parade.
Bratton said it's a testament to the parade's safety that he will be watching the event with his grandchildren.
"I'm flying my family in from Los Angeles and I'll be happily watching that parade with them," he said.
About 3 million people are expected to line the streets as giant inflated characters float down the streets of Manhattan -- a New York City tradition since 1924.
