Fundraiser Set Up To Help Pay NJ Boy Scout Leader's Medical Costs After Bear Attack
ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Friends of a New Jersey Boy Scout leader who was attacked by a bear are trying to raise money to help pay his medical bills.
It took more than three weeks, but Chris Petronino, 50, is finally home.
Petronino had been receiving in-patient treatment after was mauled by a black bear on Dec. 20 at Split Rock Reservoir in Rockaway Township in Morris County.
Petronino was with three Scouts, ages 12 and 13, when the bear attacked. The boys put their training to good use, helping rescuers find and save their leader.
When crews reached Petronino, they found he had bites to his leg, head and both shoulders.
Petronino still needs nursing care.
A Go Fund Me page has been set up because all of the medical costs are not covered by insurance, WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported.
The goal is $10,000.
