Suspect Ronald Schroeder arrested after body found in Huntington, N.Y.

Man arrested after woman's remains found in suitcase on Long Island

HUNTINGTON, N.Y — A suspect was arrested Friday after a body was found stuffed in a suitcase on Long Island earlier this week.

Investigators said the remains were found Tuesday in Huntington after police received a 911 call about suspicious activity in a wooded area near Nassau Road. The victim was identified as Seikeya Jones, 31. The Suffolk County medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

Police said Ronald Schroeder, 31, was arrested at Penn Station in New York just before 2 p.m. Friday. He has been charged with concealment of a human corpse, and he was also charged with an active bench warrant. MTA Police also charged him with criminal possession of a controlled substance.

He's set to be arraigned Saturday morning in Central Islip.

Family of Seikeya Jones gather for candlelight vigil in Huntington

Before the news of an arrest was announced, Jones' loved ones gathered for a candlelight vigil in Huntington.

"Nobody deserves that. She was a human being just like everybody else," said Jones' mother, Yolanda Terrell.

Friends, family and neighbors lit candles and shared words of support behind the Nassau Road apartment building where Jones' remains were found.

"I didn't appreciate her being thrown up there and I'm going to make sure whoever did this is held accountable," Terrell said.

Jones was one of five siblings and a mother to a 4-year-old boy. She grew up in the neighborhood and graduated from Huntington High School.

Friend Tiffany White just spoke to Jones two weeks ago.

"Whenever she saw somebody that was down, she tried to bring them up. She's the type of person that would give you the shirt off her back, and to see something like this happen to her is horrific. It's like, she didn't deserve that," White said.

Now, the scene of the crime has been transformed into a beautiful tribute to a young woman taken too soon.

"I pray, I really do pray that she gets the justice that she needs," White said.
