Bill Romanowski On Stopping Cam Newton: I Would 'Hit Him As Hard As I Possibly Could,' 'Choke Him'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Former NFL bad boy Bill Romanowski would put a hurting on Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton in an effort to stop him.

Romanowski told Bleacher Report in an interview he would choke Newton on the bottom of the pile.

"I'd hit him as hard as I possibly could, and probably at the bottom of the pile I'd try to get him by the neck and choke him," Romanowski said laughing. "And hopefully he can't breathe for a long time."

Romanowski and the interviewers were joking around during the interview, so it appears the former linebacker was clowning around.

Romanowski, however, has a very checkered past. He once broke his teammate's left orbital bone after punching him in the face during a scrimmage. Oakland Raiders' Marcus Williams had to retire from football from his injuries.

He also broke Panthers' Kerry Collins' jaw on a helmet-to-helmet hit, spit in the face of San Francisco 49ers wide receiver J.J. Stokes and kicked Arizona Cardinals running back Larry Centers in the head.

Romanowski played with the 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos and Raiders over his 16-year career.
