Best Outdoor Bars In Hoboken

Outdoor bar season is back in Hoboken! While most of the great restaurants in the city take over the sidewalks and offer plenty of outside restaurant seating, a few places take pride in their permanent open-air options. So go out and start drinking under the sun or the moon at these outdoor bars.

If you're looking to grab a drink outdoors with a view of NYC's west side, make sure to go to Pier 13, but get there early. This seasonal bar located on a pier next to the shipyard marina gets full with all groups of people, young families included, as soon as it opens. The beach and beanbag chairs that are sprinkled all over the grassy lawn create a beachy, laid back vibe right on the Hudson. You're also welcome to bring your own blankets and chairs. Along with the usual choice of beers and drinks, make sure to try the white sangria that's served in glass bottles with stoppers and metal buckets of ice ($28). And if you're hungry while you drink, there's a rotating list of food trucks that park at the start of the pier for the summer.

Pilsner Haus Beer Garden

While most outdoor bars in Hoboken can sell their views of the NYC skyline - the Pilsner Haus uses their truly authentic Austro-Hungarian beer garden vibe to get people in the door. Choose from a variety of imported drafts and European craft beers while sitting at gigantic family style tables in the garden's backyard area. Pair your beer with their chewy and delicious Bavarian pretzel served with liptauer cheese and house-made mustard ($11). And don't worry about it getting cold outside, the Pilsner Haus is fully equipped with heat lamps so you can continue drinking your liter long into the summer and fall nights.

LULU'S

Lounge vibe? Check. Strong drinks? Check. Unobstructive view of the Manhattan skyline? Check and check. LULU's is one of the newest nightclub/bar locations to open in Hoboken, right on the second floor of the W Hotel. While LULU's offers the standard nightclub experience of lounging couches, bottle service and live DJs on Thursday thru Saturday nights, consider stopping by the bar after work either Wednesday or Thursday when they open. It's usually pretty quiet and the outdoor patio is completely covered. So sit back, relax with a cool cocktail (try the Moves Like Jaggar, $13) and check out the beautiful city view rain or shine.

City Bistro

Nothing reminds you more that winter is officially over then when rooftop bars begin to open. Have a Sunday Funday at City Bistro, a laid-back bar/restaurant in uptown Hoboken that offers good food, daily drink specials, and a circular rooftop bar positioned in such a way that you can always gaze at the beautiful NYC skyline while you sip your drink. The rooftop is also equipped with flat screen TVs around the perimeter, so no excuse when it comes to staying inside to watch the game. If you plan on staying up on the roof, make sure you stop at an ATM. The bar is cash-only and does not sync up with any tabs opened on the over levels of the bar.

Dubliner
96 River Street

An Irish Bar with a tiki and palm tree style (trust us, it makes sense), The Dubliner is a great place to enjoy the warm summer air from their rooftop bar. It does not have the greatest view of the city - office buildings block whatever view there might have been, but it's still a great atmosphere to hang out and drink a beer with friends. It's also okay if the weather isn't great, the bar will set up tents, space heaters and fans to keep the party going. This bar is only a block away from the PATH train, so easy access for all of your out-of-town friends.
