Directed by Bartlett Sher, Roméo et Juliette is returning to the MET this season. This particular production is different from the original Shakespeare play, shying away from linguistic trope classic to the Bard and instead focusing on the plight of the two star-crossed lovers. Diana Damrau and Vittorio Grigolo, who headline the performance, sing four memorable duets, including a brief final reunion in a tomb scene -- an addition to the classic play. The first show is on New Year's Eve (December 31); tickets can be purchased online.


Kathleen Battle: Underground Railroad - A Spiritual Journey

Grammy-award winning soprano Kathleen Battle is returning to the MET after 22 years for her performance of Underground Railroad - A Spiritual Journey. The recital will feature Battle singing a selection of spirituals with a full choir and special guests. The recital is not to will be held on Sunday, November 13 at 4 p.m.. La Bohème is considered the world's most popular opera, and it will play at the Metropolitan Opera from September 28th through January 14th. The beautiful story is full of emotion: passion, love, loss and joy among a group of young artists in Paris, circa 1830. This is a Zeffirelli production, conducted by Carlo Rizzi and Marco Armiliato. The performance casts Ailyn Pérez and Kristine Opolais paired with Dmytro Popov, Piotr Beczała and Michael Fabiano as the young Parisian lovers. The estimated run time of the opera is 2.5 hours, and is sung in Italian. Tickets can be purchased in advance online.

Tristan und Isolde opens the MET's fall season in a new production by Mariusz Treliński abnd featuring a cast of outstanding actors. Stuart Skelton leads as Tristan, Nina Stemme embodies Isolde, René Pape plays King Marke and Ekaterina Gubanova shines as Brangäne, with a rare appearance by conductor Sir Simon Rattle. The opera pays respects to the "Celtic ambience," paying tribute to the original production's rich Celtic influence.
