This Lower East Side biergarten serves beer imported from Germany alongside German comfort food. Long communal tables are both inside and on the back patio, making it easy to grab an entire table for six to 10 people. If the weather permits, try to get a table outside. The covered patio is the perfect spot to drink a liter of Hofbrau and eat a pork schnitzel ($17) with your friends.
Sammy's Roumanian Steakhouse
157 Chrystie St.
New York, NY 10002
(212) 673-0330
www.Sammysromanian.com/
The more the merrier at Sammy's Roumanian Steakhouse. This Lower East Side joint roars through nightly live music in an old-school basement restaurant. While the lively crowd and music is Sammy's main draw, the old-school Jewish food is a solid meal too. The chicken liver, prepared tableside, has caramelized onions and chopped turnips stirred in. Smear some on a slice of rye for a hearty appetizer. And bring all your friends; dinner at Sammy's is a celebration.

Brooklyn, NY 11211
(718) 599-9899
www.thebrooklynstar.com
The Southern vibe at Brooklyn Star is apparent everywhere. The menu revolves around Southern classics like buttermilk biscuits and country-fried steak. If you're particularly hungry, try the molasses brined pork chop with braised collars and smoked and pickled onion rings. The Williamsburg restaurant is divided into two rooms: an up-front bar with high tables and food service, and a spacious dining room in the back. Large communal tables in the dining room allow for large sit-down groups, while the bar's high tables are perfect for a more casual crowd.
