Sanders: 'I'm Just Really Disappointed In What The AP Did'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Sen. Bernie Sanders said he was "disappointed" that news organizations called the Democratic presidential nomination for Hillary Clinton on Monday before Tuesday's primaries.

CBS News and The Associated Press reported that the former secretary of state has enough delegates and superdelegates needed for the nomination. According to CBS News, Clinton has 2,383 delegates.

"I was upset with what the AP did," Sanders told NBC News. "They got on the phone as I understand it, and started hounding superdelegates to tell them in an anonymous way who they'd be voting for and the night before the largest primary, the biggest primary in the whole process, they make this announcement, so I'm just really disappointed in what the AP did now."

Sanders reiterated he will not be dropping out of the race.

"This is not about me, this is about creating a country," Sanders explained to NBC News. "I don't sit around making these decisions just myself, we've got millions of people who have stood up and fought with us and were going to figure out how we go forward."

Sanders' senior adviser said the Vermont senator plans to campaign in Washington, D.C., ahead of the capital's Democratic primary, hinting that his battle for the Democratic nomination will continue beyond Tuesday's contests.

Tad Devine said Tuesday that the Washington primary is "very important" and Sanders intends "to let every voter cast their vote."

Asked if Sanders' strategy to convince superdelegates to support him hinges on winning California, Devine said the campaign will "have to have a very compelling argument with them."
