Bergen County Executive James Tedesco To Be Sworn In Sunday
PARAMUS, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - New Bergen County Executive James Tedesco will be sworn in on Sunday.
Former New Jersey Gov. and state Sen. Richard Codey will swear Tedesco in at 2 p.m. at Bergen Community College in Paramus.
A Democrat, Tedesco defeated incumbent Republican executive Kathleen Donovan in November.
Members of New Jersey's congressional delegation are also expected to attend the ceremony, including U.S. Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker as well as Rep. Bill Pascrell.
As CBS2's Christine Sloan reported earlier this week, Tedesco stuck to the campaign promise to merge the county police and sheriff's departments, signing it into law on his very first day in office on New Year's Day 2015.
"This is what the people of Bergen County have been asking for and it's a promise that I made to the people of Bergen County and it's a promise I am proud to be able to deliver," Tedesco told 1010 WINS Saturday.
"No one loses their job, no one gets demoted, their contract stays in effect," he told 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten.
Tedesco previously served as mayor of the borough of Paramus from 2003 to 2010. He also worked as a general manager for the utility Public Service Electric & Gas.
