Bay Shore School District Mulls Ban On Popular Energy Drinks
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island school district may ban popular energy drinks.
Beverages like 5-Hour Energy appear everywhere but now the Bay Shore school district may ban the popular drinks.
At a recent board meeting the Athletic Director and School Board President voiced concerns and agreed with the proposed ban.
In an email to WCBS 880's Sophia Hall the School Superintendent said that athletes had been advised to refrain from drinking energy drinks because of their lack of nutritional value and the threat of cardiac arrhythmia to young people participating in strenuous activity.
This would not be the first ban on energy drinks in Suffolk County. In March, a bill was passed that banned the sale and distribution of energy drinks to anyone under the age of 18 in county parks.
