Pack Of ATV Riders Wanted In Connection With 65-Year-Old Man's Death In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A deadly hit and run has destroyed a Queens family.

Police are looking for a group of ATV riders who were caught on camera hitting a grandfather and leaving him to die on a Ridgewood street.

CBS2's Reena Roy has obtained exclusive video of the incident.

The man, identified as 65-year-old Eucario Xelo of Brooklyn, was simply on his way home after a long day of working at a restaurant last Tuesday when several ATV riders came barreling down Seneca avenue, knocking him off of his bicycle.

"He was just on his way to home after work, you know, minding his own business," said Angelica Xelo, the victim's daughter. "I saw it and I broke down."

Police said the suspects drove off and left Eucario Xelo fighting for his life on the pavement near Woodbine Street at around 12:45 a.m.

"They just just knocked him down, pushed him, pulled him," Angelica Xelo said.

"They pull his shirt. He fell and hit his head," a witness added.

Police said it's unclear if the lead rider purposely yanked Eucario Xelo off his bike or if it was a collision that hurt him, but he was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition. He died from his injuries a few days later, leaving his kids and young grandchildren behind.

"When I found out I was devastated. I was heartbroken. I never imagined this would happen to a loved one, especially my dad," Angelica Xelo said. "He didn't deserve this. It's so hard to take it in."

"He was just a hardworking man, no problems with nobody," an acquaintance added.

Investigators told CBS2 the same group of suspects was spotted shortly after attempting to hit yet another cyclist. Eucario Xelo's family is hoping whoever did it is caught before they can strike again.

"It was for no reason. If they did it to my dad, they'll do it to someone else. They need to get them off the streets," Angelica Xelo said.
