Police Make Arrest In Attempted Rape Of 8-Year-Old Girl In East Harlem
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have arrested a man in connection to an attempted rape of an 8-year-old girl sleeping in her bed in East Harlem home earlier this month.
The incident happened around 11:15 p.m. on July 7 near East 108th Street and First Avenue. Police have not specified the building where it happened.
According to authorities, the assailant climbed into the girl's window next to a fire escape. She woke up to find the suspect tugging her and nibbling on her ear.
The child's father was also home at the time of the incident. When he entered his daughter's room to see what was going on, the suspect had fled.
Juan Barreto, 27, of East Harlem, was arrested in connection to the incident, police said.
He faces charges of attempted rape, burglary and endangering the welfare of a child.
