Astros Bringing Back Clemens, Pettitte For Wednesday's Jeter Ceremony
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Get ready for another milestone: the first ceremony of Derek Jeter's farewell tour.
The Houston Astros will honor Jeter prior to Wednesday night's game against the New York Yankees at Minute Maid Park.
The Astros announced that the ceremony will include a video montage and "a special gift." The Yankees captain, who has announced his intentions to retire at the end of the season, will also be reunited with former teammates Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte.
Clemens and Pettitte aren't the only players with ties to both Jeter and the Astros expected to attend, according to multiple reports.
Jeter was spotted dining with Clemens, former President George H. W. Bush, former first lady Barbara Bush and Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson at a Houston-area restaurant Tuesday.
Clemens and former Yankees manager Joe Torre were on hand for last year's farewell to Mariano Rivera in Houston, where New York's retired closer was given a painting of his greatest moments.
As for Jeter, he'll be focused on getting the Yankees their first win of the season after Tuesday's 6-2 opening day loss. Then the future Hall of Famer will turn his attention to working toward World Series title No. 6.
"Jeter would be offended if we said 'We've got to rally around Jetes,' " Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. "We rally around the effort of trying to win a championship on a yearly basis, and he represents that more than anybody. But it sure would be a great way to send him out."
