Astorino Says He's Cooperating With Investigators Probing Contributions From Businessmen
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino said Monday that he has been fully cooperative with investigators for U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara who are questioning campaign contributions he received.
As WCBS 880's Stephanie Colombini reported, Astorino said his office received subpoenas in May, and has since turned over any information it has on businessmen Jona Rechnitz and Jeremy Reichberg.
Rechnitz and Reichberg are connected to the New York City pay-to-play corruption scandal.
Reichberg is already is charged with bribing top NYPD officers with gifts, trips and the service of a prostitute on a trip to Las Vegas, while Rechnitz got a plea deal to testify in a number of the federal corruption cases brought by Bharara.
Rechnitz and Reichberg also contributed to Astorino's reelection campaign in 2013.
"They're 2 donors out of 13,000 donors that we have in our campaign. So I know this is part of a wider issue in New York City," Astorino said. "Unfortunately, they touched us here and we'll deal with that."
Astorino said he donated the money he received from the donors to charity.
