Amy Schumer Leaves $1,000 Tip For 'Hamilton' Bartenders
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Bartenders working the Broadway hit show "Hamilton" saw lots of Benjamins thanks to Amy Schumer.
CBS2's Meg Baker reports the comedian and actress left a $1,000 tip.
"I was shocked, completely shocked," bartender Sara Laursen told CBS2. "I said, 'Are you sure?' And he said, 'Yes, yes.'"
Schumer was at the show with a group of friends. Laursen – an aspiring actress and comedian herself – served them.
"Slipping me the credit card slip, saying Amy would like you to get this tip and I look down and it's $1,000. And my heart dropped and I was so speechless," Laursen told CBS2.
Tips for the night were pooled amongst all the bartenders, but this was the first time any of them got a tip that big.
"The spirit of the show is everything you've heard and more. When you come and see this in person, there's an energy that permeates everything and everyone and inspires this generosity," Mike Anthony, bar manager at the Richard Rodgers Theater, told CBS2.
Schumer told CBS2's Meg Baker in a tweet that she has "lots of love" to her fellow bartenders and artists.
"I'm grateful to them and the cast and crew for another great night," Schumer said.
Bartenders in the Theater District area said what Schumer did was a big deal.
"I would probably buy the bar a round right away and do a shot with them," Mike Seaman told CBS2.
Monica Estrerra said, "It's a big deal for us. It pays our bills, pays our school. Rare to get a tip like that."
