AMBER Alert Canceled: 15-Year-Old Ahsan Ali Found Safe
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - An AMBER Alert has come to an end after a missing teenager who police say was abducted by his older brother was found.
Police told CBS2's Jenna DeAngelis the teen is safe and unharmed.
We're told he was found around 3 p.m. Wednesday walking around Queens.
There was still a police presence outside the family's home on 46th Avenue, where it all began early Wednesday morning.
The AMBER Alert was sent to phones and billboards Wednesday morning in the desperate search for 15-year-old Ahsan Ali, who was believed to have been taken by his older brother Mohsin Ali.
Ahsan was found safe hours later.
But for most of the day, neighbors watched helicopters hover and investigators go in and out of the family's home.
"When I came to the door this morning and I look out I saw all the police cars," one neighbor said. "I was in shock. I mean why would his older brother want to kidnap?"
It started around 4:30 a.m.
Police sources say Mohsin Ali was arguing with his parents after they refused to give him money. Sources say the 28-year-old has a drug problem. He allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife, cut himself, and - while holding the knife - ordered his brother to leave with him in his parents car.
"They live in the same house, it's really concerning. Especially I have my child walking around all the time, this is really scary," said homeowner Muhammad Afzal.
He lives on the first floor of the home, and says the family involved, his tenants, live on the second floor and have done so for several years.
He described them as nice people, sharing that he just saw the brothers last night.
"They were sitting outside together. I don't see them like a bad relationship at all," he said.
All other neighbors DeAngelis spoke to say the family kept to themselves and are just glad the teen is found safe.
"I did not personally know the family, but when I would walk my dog I would see the family in the yard during the pandemic, playing games," said neighbor Karen Dussack. "It's very sad. I never expected it by us."
Mohsin Ali was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon. Police say he will undergo a psych evaluation after they found him with self-inflicted wounds.
No charges have been filed at this time.
