Police: Father Arrested In NJ After Infant Son Abducted From NY

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police in New York have charged a New Jersey man with burglary after they said he broke into a relative's home near Albany and abducted one of his infant sons.

Jonathan Lawrence, 21, was arrested Monday morning in Union City, New Jersey.

Around 10:45 p.m. Sunday, police said Lawrence broke into a home in Greenport, New York with the intent of taking his twin, 3-month-old sons, Adam and Steven Ristick, from their mother.

Police said while trying to take the children, Lawrence hit the boys' grandfather in the face. Family members were able to prevent Lawrence from taking Adam, but Lawrence fled the home with Steven, police said.

The grandfather was taken to the hospital and treated for a laceration to the eye, police said.

New York State Police issued an Amber Alert for Steven, who was found safe with his father in New Jersey around 6:30 a.m. Monday after police convinced Lawrence to turn himself in, authorities said.

Lawrence is being held in New Jersey and is awaiting extradition back to New York.
