Alleged Muggers Arrested After Taking Photo Of Themselves With Stolen iPhone

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A photo snapped of two Brooklyn teenagers on a stolen iPhone has led to police the alleged bandits.

In all, Tyquan Solomon, 19, of Fort Greene, and Terrance Sistrunk, 16, also of Fort Greene, were arrested and each charged with five robberies Wednesday. The thefts occurred in January and February in and around Fort Greene Park, police said.

On Feb. 2 around 1 a.m., a 22-year-old man was mugged at the corner of Auburn Place and North Portland Avenue while walking home. The suspects displayed a black handgun and demanded his property, police said. The thieves made off with $205 and an iPhone, according to authorities.

Later that afternoon, the victim noticed a photo on his iPhone Photostream service of the suspects, one of them holding a handful of cash.

Cops were able to use the photos to identify Solomon and Sistrunk and make the arrests.

Police are not ruling out that the duo might be responsible for other robberies and is asking any victims of a similar crime in the area to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
