Scout On A-Rod's Smooth Swing: 'He Just Looks Like He Doesn't Give A S---'
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Nobody could have possibly seen this coming.
Following a season-long drug suspension in which he didn't play a single game, Alex Rodriguez has gotten off to a tremendous start in 2015. More than a quarter through the season, A-Rod has established himself as arguably the most feared hitter in the Yankees' lineup.
The controversial slugger looks relaxed and comfortable, and has kept a low profile. He's also swinging the bat with authority, hitting .277 with 11 home runs and 27 RBIs and posting a .372 on-base percentage.
"He has the easiest swing I've ever seen from him," an American League advance scout told the New York Daily News. "He just looks like he doesn't give a sh-t. And that's a good thing."
The 14-time All-Star, who will likely play in the Midsummer Classic on July 14 in Cincinnati, continues to inch up the record books.
He's fourth all time in home runs with 665 and tied for second with Barry Bonds in RBIs (1,996). He'll have a chance to pass Bonds on Friday night when the Bombers take on the A's in Oakland.
In addition to potential bonuses for reaching milestones, the 39-year-old is earning $21 million this season and will make $20 million each of the next two seasons. His contract will expire after the 2017 season.
