Agent: Josh Freeman Joining QB-Needy Giants
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- There's a new quarterback in town -- even if it's just for a few months.
Josh Freeman has agreed to a deal with the New York Giants, the QB's agent confirmed via Twitter on Wednesday. Freeman worked out for the club on Tuesday.
The Giants were looking to bring in a third quarterback to help run offseason workouts while Eli Manning rehabs from arthroscopic ankle surgery, the New York Daily News reported last week. Matt Flynn was also on the team's radar, but he's headed back to the Green Bay Packers.
It remains to be seen whether Freeman will impress enough to nab a permanent backup role with the Giants.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released Freeman, their first-round pick in 2009, after a volatile first month of the 2013 season. He landed in Minnesota, had a brutal Week 7 start against the Giants, and never took the field again.
Freeman, 26, had some solid years in Tampa Bay, including 2010, when he had 25 touchdowns to only six interceptions. In 2012, he threw for 4,065 yards and 27 touchdowns.
Curtis Painter and Ryan Nassib, selected in the fourth round of last year's draft, are also on New York's roster.
Manning said in a statement prior to last week's procedure that doctors expect him to begin running in six weeks. The team said that he sustained the injury during their season finale against the Washington Redskins.
