Actor Donnie Wahlberg Is Focused On The Moment In Fifth Season Of 'Blue Bloods'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Friday night means "Blue Bloods" on CBS 2 -- the fifth season for the hit police drama that has made Donnie Wahlberg a TV star.

Wahlberg was a guest on 'CBS This Morning' on Friday. As CBS 2's Dana Tyler explained, the actor and singer is working more than ever, but focused on the moment.

Son of the police commissioner, big brother of a street cop, actor Donnie Wahlberg said that his 'Blue Bloods' character Danny Reegan marches to the beat of his own drummer.

"This year he has a new Lt come into the squad who's really gonna straighten him to, and she's going to change, make him shave a little bit," Wahlberg said.

Wahlberg's star power has risen along with the demands of a hit network TV show.

"It's tough because I'm also a dad and a husband, and have other things going on. One hour dramas are so long. I work five days a week, sixteen hours a day, eight months a year," he said.

But Wahlberg isn't complaining. In fact, he's quite reflective.

"My father drove a truck and was laid off and or on strike the other half of the time, and um everything I get to do, I'm a kid in a candy store. I'm very, very blessed," he said.

Over the summer he married Jenny McCarthy.

"She's so much fun. her and I came around in the same era, both have gone through divorces, and so many similarities professionally and personally and to discover each other for the first time in our forties, we never really met in those years, we just hit it off," he said.

He has that new perspective about his Boston boy band 'New Kids On The Block' which reunited in 2008.

"To be 40 and touring versus being 20, I know what I did wrong, and what I missed out on. I know to not let a show go on without taking in smiles," Wahlberg said.

The eighth of nine children Wahlberg is also the producer of the family reality show 'Wahlbergers.' He also said that he gets along great with his younger brother, Oscar nominated producer and actor, Mark Wahlberg.

"We're different in our goals. I fly on my own trajectory, he's on his. He wants to conquer the world, I just wanna conquer my world," he said.

'Blue Bloods' can be seen every Friday night on CBS.
