Acting NJ Gov. Kim Guadagno In Hospital After Bike Accident

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Acting Gov. Kim Guadagno is in the hospital following a morning bike accident that left her with broken bones.

Guadagno was riding her bike in Sea Bright Thursday when she stopped suddenly to avoid a vehicle and fell, a spokesman for the governor's office said.

She was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where she is being treated for a broken elbow and wrist. The Record newspaper first reported the fall.

Guadagno serves as acting governor when Gov. Chris Christie is out of town.

Christie was in Arizona Thursday attending events in his role as chair of the Republican Governors Association.

The spokesman said Guadagno is alert and in good spirits and will be staying in the hospital overnight for routine observation.

She skipped a noon event in Camden.
