76-year-old man stabbed during fight in Midtown, hospitalized

NEW YORK -- A 76-year-old man was rushed to the hospital Sunday night after police said he was stabbed during a fight in Midtown Manhattan

It happened at the corner of 35th Street and Sixth Avenue.

According to investigators, a panhandler asked the man for money before the two got into a fight.

The man was stabbed in the stomach. His injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

The suspect took off.

The investigation spilled down into the subway.

"Scared. Scared. Weird for me, because I'm new in New York, and I don't what's happening. Like, afraid," one straphanger said.

"I love this city, but why the violence? There's no need for the violence," another said.

Police are reviewing nearby surveillance camera footage, and are continuing to search for the suspect.
