4 Arrested In Long Island Kidnapping Hoax

NEW CASSEL, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A reported kidnapping was nothing more than a hoax invented by four young people looking for cash, police said.

The suspects, who were holed up in a Long Island motel, demanded ransom for a kidnapping victim authorities say was never taken.

The four faced charges Sunday, including attempted grand larceny.

Nassau County detectives say two men and two women devised the scheme to call a family demanding $2,000 for the return of the supposed victim.

Just after midnight Saturday, police entered a motel room in Hicksville, where they found the four along with a bag containing drugs.

The men charged are 20-year-old Wendy Suprien, of New Cassel, and 20-year-old Wisard Dextra, of Westbury. The women charged are 28-year-old Scharday Hilton, of Huntington Station, and 19-year-old Sheyla Diaz, of the Bronx.

Police did not know whether they had an attorney.
