Police searching for 3 women after 2 cab drivers robbed

NEW YORK - The NYPD is searching for three women after two cab drivers were robbed at gunpoint in Midtown and the Bronx.

Police released images of the women in the hopes that someone may recognize them after they said they robbed taxi drivers at gunpoin in two separate incidents during the overnight hours.

They struck first at Grand Central. Police said the three women pulled a gun on a 60-year-old man driving a cab back on Monday, Nov. 20 around 1 a.m. The women demanded the driver hand over his cell phone before they hopped out of the taxi. They were last seen running inside the Grand Central-42nd Street subway station, according to police.

Two hours later, around 3 a.m., the trio then took a cab to the Fordham Heights section of the Bronx, and police said when the driver dropped the women off near Ryer Avenue and 180th Street, they pulled out a gun again and demanded the 59-year-old driver's phone and wallet with about $200 in cash before running away.

Tuesday morning, some taxi drivers said safety is one of the reasons they choose not to work overnight.,

"I work the day shift. I don't work in the night," one driver said.

Aziz has been behind the wheel of taxis in New York City for more than 10 years, and says, despite never being robbed, he always remains cautious.

"You have to be aware. You have to go home to your family safe. You can't just, over a small amount of money, risk your life. It doesn't work like that way," another cab driver said.

Police said the taxi drivers in both incidents were not injured.
