In a new weekly segment, we'll take a look at who's hot and who's not on the NY/NJ sports landscape. With that, here we go:
THREE UP:
1. Mets' Young Guns
Juan Lagares won a Gold Glove Award on Tuesday, while Jacob deGrom appears to be a lock for NL Rookie of the Year. He's already been voted by the players as the league's top neophyte.
2. Rick Nash
The Rangers may have dropped back-to-back games, but there's no slowing down Nash. He has nine goals and 12 points in 11 games.
3. Brooklyn Hoops
After losing the opener in Boston, they've bounced back with a pair of wins against Detroit and Oklahoma City. Brook Lopez is healthy, at least for the time being, and he's looked real solid.
THREE DOWN:
1. MetLife Stadium Tenants
The Jets have been a disaster all year, while the Giants have erased any good their three-game winning streak did by losing the next three.
2. Islanders
They got off to a hot start but have lost three in a row. Superstar John Tavares has just two points in his last five games. There's plenty of time to turn things around, but they're going through a bit of a rough stretch.
3. A-Rod
Not even a week has passed since Rodriguez's suspension officially ended, and he's already the center of attention for all the wrong reasons. It was reported on Tuesday that A-Rod paid his cousin a lot of money to keep quiet about his steroid use. On Wednesday, it's being reported that he told the DEA that he used performance-enhancing drugs.
