Man Charged In 2011 Mount Vernon Shooting That Killed Innocent Bystander

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man who allegedly shot an innocent bystander in Mount Vernon has been charged with murder five years after her death, prosecutors in Westchester County said Thursday.

Rahsi McClean, 26, of Mount Vernon, was arraigned Thursday on charges including second-degree murder in the Aug. 8, 2011 shooting of Gloria Nartey, 27.

Nartey was shot in the back of the head as she walked home from the Mount Vernon train station carrying groceries.

Acting Westchester County District Attorney James McCarty said old McClean is a gang member who was shooting at a rival when his gunfire hit Nartey.

Nartey died instantly. She was working as a research scientist at Pepsi at the time of her death.

Family members at the time said Nartey had moved to Mount Vernon to escape violence in her Bronx neighborhood.

McClean pleaded not guilty to the charges. His attorney did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
