2 NYPD Officers Hurt When SUV Crashes Into Cruiser In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two NYPD officers were taken to the hospital Saturday after their cruiser was hit by an SUV in Brooklyn.
Police say the officers were responding to a call around 11:15 a.m. when their vehicle was struck by a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer, sending it onto the sidewalk near the corner of Ridgewood Avenue and Hemlock Street in Cypress Hills.
Isai Nunez was standing just feet away.
"I was worried it was going to hit me," he told CBS2's Marc Liverman. "I was like very scared."
Shards of glass and pieces of debris from the crash were set flying into the air. Nunez did everything he could to protect himself.
"When I saw the cop coming like at a high speed, I was like they're going to crash and I just ran back," he said.
Surveillance video shows both officers get out of the cruiser. One collapses on the pavement as other nearby officers rush to help.
What the video doesn't show is the SUV driver's reaction.
"He was just scared, he was like shaking," said Nunez.
The officers were taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center with minor neck and back injuries.
The other driver was also taken to Jamaica Hospital with minor injuries.
"That could have been anybody's life," another witness said.
Investigators say the driver of the SUV did not come to a complete stop at a stop sign before t-boning the cruiser.
No charges have been filed at this time.
