PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Two people were killed and several more were injured Monday afternoon when an NJ TRANSIT bus and a car were involved in a crash near Atlantic City.

The accident happened around 1:50 p.m. at Franklin Boulevard and Old Turnpike Road, in Pleasantville, New Jersey, NJ TRANSIT spokesman John Durso told WCBS 880.

The Press of Atlantic City reported the car was heading north on Franklin Boulevard when it swerved for unknown reasons and struck the bus. The car then flipped around but remained upright.

The bus was operating on the 502 Line. It originated at the Atlantic City bus terminal and was headed to the Hamilton Mall, Durso said.

Two people were killed, police said.

Six people were in the car, and four of them were taken to the hospital.

Three people were injured on the bus – including the bus operator, Durso said. None of the injuries were life-threatening, he said.

The accident forced authorities to close a stretch of Franklin Boulevard, causing travel delays in the area.
