2 Charged In Attack That Left Man Dead On Bronx Street

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two men were charged Monday in a fight in the Bronx that police believe was responsible for a man's death.

Police sources told CBS2 that Jose Lucero, 30, was with a group of people around 8:45 p.m. Sunday when two men, ages 23 and 26, confronted them on Stratford Avenue between Westchester and Watson avenues, in the Soundview section of the Bronx.

The men claimed the group had damaged their car, source said.

Lucero refused to pay for the alleged damage, and said the men should call 911 to settle it, sources said.

Soon afterward, a fight broke out, and Lucero was punched in the head and fell to the ground, sources said.

The suspects also both punched another 30-year-old man in the face, causing a cut to his mouth, swelling to his face, and redness to his head, police said.

The woman was kicked in her left leg and also punched in the face, and suffered bruises and redness, police said.

The two suspects were arrested at the scene, police said.

Later, around 10:35 p.m., police found Lucero with difficulty breathing inside a nearby building. While waiting for an ambulance, the man lost consciousness and required CPR from officers, police said. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

On Monday, two suspects were charged in the incident. Andrixs Suarez, 23, of the Bronx was charged with manslaughter recklessly causing death and three counts of assault, while Rosario Wander, 26, of the Bronx was charged with assault and harassment, police said.
