2-Alarm Fire In East Flatbush Injures 4

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Four people were rushed to Kings County Hospital -- one in critical condition -- after a two-alarm fire erupted in an East Flatbush, Brooklyn, apartment building on Tuesday.

Witnesses told 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten that at least one person was injured after jumping from the building on Clarendon Road.

One woman was forced to pass her toddler from a fire escape to a man standing on a Dumpster below her window.

"He's right there, like, 'Come on, bring the baby. Come on,' the mother said.

The fire began in a second-floor apartment. While the flames were confined to one unit, a number of people are displaced because of extensive water and smoke damage in their homes, officials said.

Residents who rushed out of the building and into the freezing cold were seen standing along the street without coats.

The fire is not believed to be suspicious.
