State troopers said the driver of a tractor-trailer hauling orange juice was unable to stop and hit the SUV, then overturned.
"The driver of the tractor-trailer observed the accident in front of him, but was unable to stop," said State police spokesman Lt. Brian Polite.
The truck driver was killed. His name hasn't been released.
Andrews is in stable condition with a head injury. Polite said investigators are at the hospital talking with him to "ascertain what exactly caused him to strike the median."
Two of the three local lanes northbound are open, but drivers should expect delays and may want to consider alternate routes.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
