Zooey Deschanel secretly weds, welcomes first child
There's a "new girl" in the family.
"New Girl" actress and singer-songwriter Zooey Deschanel gave birth to a baby girl. She and her husband Jacob Pechenik announced the pregnancy and engagement in January but secretly wed in June. The baby was born in Austin, Texas in late July.
Deschanel, 35, is known for films such as "Almost Famous" and "(500) Days of Summer." She received an Emmy Award nomination and three Golden Globe nominations for her starring role in the sitcom "New Girl." Pechenik, 42, produced the movies "Before Midnight" and "The Skeleton Twins."
Deschanel can be seen in the upcoming Bill Murray comedy "Rock the Kasbah," produced by Pechenik. She divorced Death Cab for Cutie vocalist Ben Gibbard in 2012.
