Zooey Deschanel named her baby after this animal

Zooey Deschanel and her husband Jacob Pechenik have named their daughter after a sea creature.

The "New Girl" star finally revealed her 3-month-old baby's name to People on Wednesday at the "Rock the Kasbah" premiere in New York City.

"It's Elsie ... " said Deschanel before her producer husband cut in: "Otter."

Elsie Otter -- at least little Elsie won't have to go by Otter on the playground.

It took a few months, but Zooey Deschanel has finally spilled the beans on her baby girl's name.

Deschanel explained her choice of name on "Today" on Tuesday.

"We just really liked the name Elsie and then we both love otters -- they're very sweet and they're also smart," she said. "They use tools ... they hold hands while they sleep, there's so many amazing things about otters. They're wonderful animals."

Elsie Otter was born in late July in Austin, Texas. The couple secretly wed in June.
