Zoe Saldana's husband insisted on taking her last name

From the sound of it, Zoe Saldana has one of the most progressive marriages in Hollywood. The "Avatar" star told InStyle magazine that her husband, Italian artist Marco Perego, insisted on taking her last name when they quietly wed in England in 2013, despite her protests that he might face ridicule.

"I tried to talk him out of it," Saldana said in the magazine's July issue, but her progressive-thinking artist husband insisted that he follow through with the egalitarian, if unorthodox, choice.

"I told him, 'If you use my name, you're going to be emasculated by your community of artists, by your Latin community of men, by the world,'" she said.

The former soccer player-turned painter responded with confidence though.

"Marco looks up at me and says, 'Ah, Zoe, I don't give a sheet.'"

Mrs. and Mr. Saldana welcomed their first children last November: twin boys Cy Ardio and Bowie Ezio, and their life together couldn't be more divine, the actress says.

"Finally when we had our boys, I looked at my husband and I realized: I was meant for you and you were meant for me. I've always felt comfortable around men as long as they were friends. Now I finally feel comfortable with my lover," Zaldana said.
