Zac Efron says he was attacked in Los Angeles' Skid Row
Talk about a rough weekend.
Actor Zac Efron told Los Angeles police officers that he was assaulted early Sunday morning by a homeless man in Skid Row, the city's seedy downtown neighborhood.
LAPD officials confirmed the case to the Los Angeles Times.
The 26-year-old "That Awkward Moment" star said he was driving with a friend when they became "stranded" after running out of gas in the crime-ridden area.
Officers arrived to the scene at 2:25 a.m., where they found Efron and his friend waiting. Police said there were indications of an assault, but further details have yet to be released. No arrests have been made in the case.
TMZ says it has spoken with the driver of Efron's vehicle, who wished to remain anonymous and claimed to be the actor's bodyguard. The unidentified individual said that a group of transients approached their vehicle after Efron threw a bottle of unidentified liquid out of the car window.
According to TMZ, Efron's supposed bodyguard allegedly became involved in a physical struggle with the transients, and the actor came to his defense. One of the homeless men is said to have struck Efron in the face, the site reports.
In 2013, various media outlets reported that Efron had twice sought rehab treatment for alcoholism and substance abuse.
His next film, the comedy "Neighbors" co-starring Seth Rogen, is due for release on May 9.
