You may soon be able to pay bills from Gmail
Your letters, chats and calendar are already wrapped up in your Gmail account, and soon you may be able to add your checkbook.
According to documents acquired by Re/code, Google is planning to add bill payments to Gmail. The service, called (at least for now) Pony Express, is scheduled to launch in the fourth quarter, and will enable users to receive, review and pay credit card and utility bills right from Gmail.
Re/code reports that in order to sign up, users will have to provide personal information including name, address and social security number, which will be vetted by a third party, and to link Pony Express to a checking account or debit card. Then, they'll be able to get e-bills in their inboxes, and to pay those bills right from there.
How Google might use all the new data it's going to be able to collect is anyone's guess, but if you don't mind the company getting even deeper into your personal life, it could be a seriously convenient function.
