Woody Allen signs with Amazon to create his first-ever TV series

Woody Allen is teaming up with Amazon Studios to create his first-ever television series.

The filmmaker will write and direct the "Untitled Woody Allen Project," a half-hour series that has already received a full-season order, Amazon announced Tuesday.

Additional details, including casting information, will be revealed at a later date. Episodes will be available next year on Amazon's Prime Instant Video service in the U.S., U.K. and Germany.

"Woody Allen is a visionary creator who has made some of the greatest films of all-time, and it's an honor to be working with him on his first television series," Roy Price, Vice President of Amazon Studios, said in a press release announcing the news. "From 'Annie Hall' to 'Blue Jasmine,' Woody has been at the creative forefront of American cinema and we couldn't be more excited to premiere his first TV series exclusively on Prime Instant Video next year."

Allen added, "I don't know how I got into this. I have no ideas and I'm not sure where to begin. My guess is that Roy Price will regret this."

The announcement comes on the heels of Amazon's strong showing at Sunday's Golden Globes, where its original series "Transparent" won awards for best comedy series and best actor in a TV comedy series for Jeffrey Tambor.
