Woman wanted in jewelry store thefts arrested in Georgia

SMYRNA, Ga. -- A woman suspected in a string of jewelry store robberies across the southeastern U.S. is now in FBI custody.

Abigail Lee Kemp, 24, was arrested Friday in Smyrna, Georgia, by agents from the FBI Atlanta Division, the bureau said in a statement Saturday.

Another individual with Kemp at the time of her arrest is also in police custody. Due to the ongoing investigation, the identity of the second person was not released.

FBI Special Agent Lawrence Borghini told CBS affiliate WGCL that Kemp and her partner targeted outlet malls off major interstates in at least five states.

Police say Kemp and her accomplice have gotten away with millions of dollars of worth of diamonds and high-end watches from stores in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee.
