Woman sucker-punched in possible "knockout attack" in Calif.
LOS GATOS, Calif. - Authorities are looking for a man suspected of sucker-punching a mother outside a dance studio in Los Gatos, Calif., Monday afternoon. Authorities said the attack could be related to a recent phenomenon known as the “knockout game,” reports CBS San Francisco.
Police say the woman, who had just dropped her daughter off at the dance studio, fell to the ground after she was punched in the face. Her injuries were reportedly not life-threatening and she was treated at the scene.
“We heard a commotion like a thunk and a scream,” dance instructor Mariana Sorbal told the station.
Witnesses reportedly said the suspect fled the area on foot.
Police say the woman could be the latest victim of the so-called “knockout game,” where unsuspecting people are knocked out at random with one punch, for the sheer thrill of it.
“It was in the middle of the day. It wasn’t even dark yet, it was full of people. So obviously they’re trying to look for attention,” Sorbal said of Monday’s incident. “It’s kind of scary, that someone thinks it’s a game to go ahead and punch people.”
Police describe the suspect as an African-American adult in his early-to-mid 20s, standing 5’9” to 6’ tall with a slender build and short brown hair. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans and a white baseball cap backwards.
