Woman shot in Seattle-area movie theater
RENTON, Wash. -- A man who shot a woman inside a movie theater in this Seattle suburb Thursday night later called 911 from his home to turn himself in and was arrested, authorities said.
Officers responded to a shooting call shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday at Regal Cinemas in a shopping area called The Landing.
Witnesses told CBS Seattle affiliate KIRO-TV the gunman stumbled in and appeared to be intoxicated when he fumbled with a handgun and it went off, hitting the woman sitting in the row in front of him. They described the shooter as a younger male.
Investigators said the suspect later told them he had dropped his gun and the shooting was accidental. They said they believe the man and woman don't know each other.
Another witness told the station the gunman had gone into a restaurant after the shooting and dropped his gun in front of the patrons. He then picked it up and stumbled out, walked into the parking garage and got away.
The incident happened during a showing of the movie "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi."
The woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg said Thursday night the woman was in critical condition in the intensive care unit. Her condition was later pgraded to stable.
