Guilty plea in Boston delivery man's murder
BOSTON - One of three people charged in the brutal murder of a pizza delivery man in Boston four years ago pleaded guilty Monday, reports CBS Boston.
Alexander Gallett, his girlfriend Yamiley Mathurin, and Michel St. Jean were charged with first-degree murder in the death of 58-year-old Richel Nova. Mathurin, now 21, pleaded guilty to manslaughter, armed robbery and breaking and entering in the case.
Nova was lured to a vacant home in the Hyde Park neighborhood of the city in September 2010, stabbed 16 times and then robbed of $143, investigators said.
Nova's slaying enraged former Mayor Thomas Menino at the time, who said he would "slowly torture" the suspects.
Menino, who knew Nova's twin daughters because they worked in City Hall, later backed off, saying he let his emotions get the better of him.
It's possible Mathurin she may now testify against the two co-defendants in their upcoming trial, according to CBS Boston. She faces 20 years to life in prison.
Maturin was remanded Monday to the House of Correction. A preliminary sentencing date was set for September 26.
All three defendants have been in jail since 2010.
The trio, none of whom had a criminal record, were caught on surveillance video and allegedly seen by a witness. One of their friends said she overheard the three discussing plans for the robbery a day earlier.
