Chicago woman repeatedly hit by car killed

CHICAGO -- Police say an 18-year-old woman was killed Friday night when a 24-year-old woman repeatedly struck her with a vehicle on Chicago's South Side, CBS Chicago reports.

The fatal incident took place around 11:10 p.m. in the the city's Morgan Park neighborhood. Police say the driver chased the young woman along the sidewalk and repeatedly rammed her into a tree with her Jeep Liberty. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 24-year-old has been arrested and charges are pending, authorities said.

One friend of the victim said he immediately ran to his friend's aid and checked her pulse, but she was unresponsive. He said the altercation escalated from a Facebook argument.

"The victim and her boyfriend was visiting and I guess the other girl, out of jealousy and envy, followed them over here and it escalated over Facebook from my understanding," he said.

Residents were shocked by the incident and heard arguments from their homes. 

"This is devastating for me because I've never seen anything like this before in my life," one resident told CBS Chicago.

Another resident said, "[The driver] just ran over the curb, just come up, hit that girl, literally hit her two times, and rolled her body, and drove off."
