Woman arrested in death of Calif. woman, 73

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Authorities are investigating after a 73-year-old was found dead in a home in Carmel Valley, a village in Monterey County, Calif., reports CBS affiliate KFMB.

Police were called to the home for a welfare check at around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. When officers knocked on the door, there was no response - but they heard a woman talking and a dog barking, according to the station.

Upon entering, authorities located 51-year-old Lara Epstein who led them to the body of a 73-year-old woman in another room.

Epstein was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder, reports the station.

Epstein's relationship to the victim is unclear. Also unclear is the victim's cause of death.

Lt. Paul Rorrison with the San Diego Police Department told the station the victim suffered "massive trauma to her body."

"...We're waiting for a search warrant to get inside the house to conduct an investigation," he added.

The victim's name was withheld pending family notification.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact police at (619) 531-2293.
