Woman arrested, charged in fatal stabbing on Detroit bus

DETROIT -- A woman accused of fatally stabbing a fellow rider on a Detroit bus Wednesday was arrested and charged with first degree murder, reports CBS Detroit.

Sgt. Cassandra Lewis told WWJ that 29-year old Tiffanie Edwards turned herself in on Thursday. Police also reportedly received numerous calls throughout the day -- including from family members -- identifying the victim.

"So, with all of that information we were able to facilitate her turning herself in safely, without incident, and that allows us to bring closure to the family in this case," said Lewis.

Police said that the suspect accidentally "bumped" another woman as the bus made a stop, according to the station, she then allegedly stabbed the 50-year old woman after an argument, and then fled.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital, but later died.

Edwards has two previous felony convictions from 2012, according to MLive. She was convicted of two counts of resisting and obstruction of a police officer in one case, and in another she pleaded no contest to an assault and battery charge. She reportedly received probation in both cases.

Edwards is expected to be arraigned Friday morning, according to CBS Detroit.
