William Shatner hit with $170 million paternity suit
A man who has long claimed to be the illegitimate son of "Star Trek" star William Shatner is taking action.
Peter Sloan -- who calls himself Peter Shatner -- has filed a $170 million lawsuit against the star, seeking punitive and compensatory damages as well as compensation for pain and suffering. Shatner has long denied that he is the man's father.
According to the lawsuit filing obtained by CNN, Sloan claims his search for the identity of his birth parents in 1984 led him to Shatner, who met with Sloan on the set of "T.J. Hooker" and "admitted" he was Sloan's biological father, though a representative for the actor soon contacted Sloan and informed him that Shatner would be denying any claims to paternity.
In 2009, Sloan registered his website, petershatner.com, and started a Florida radio show under the name Peter Shatner. Sloan has made it clear in his filing that he would like this matter decided via a jury trial.
