Where did Joni Ernst get her camo shoes?
Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, probably didn't expect shoes to play such an outsized role in her address responding to the State of the Union. One of the most vivid stories she told during her response to the State of the Union Tuesday was about the shoes she wore as a child, that she covered with bread bags to protect and extend their use.
Though the idea of bread-bag-covered shoes were a Twitter hit, the shoes that stole the show were the ones Ernst wore to deliver her speech: camouflage pumps with a 2 1/2" stacked heel.
Not everyone liked them, though.
The shoes, called "Envy," are made by Aerosole, which Wednesday was proclaiming in a banner on its website, "'Envy' in camo: as seen on the State of the Union." They can be had for $69 and feature a "tapered toe, padded insole and flexible diamond patterned sole for extra comfort"--in other words, likely well-suited to the unforgiving marble floors of the Capitol.
Thematically, the shoes are also a good fit for Ernst, who, in addition to being the first woman elected to Congress from Iowa, is the first female combat veteran to serve in the U.S. Senate. She was a company commander in Kuwait and Iraq in 2003 during Operation Iraqi Freedom and remains active as Lt. Colonel in the Iowa Army National Guard.
